Law School. Legal Education in America from the 1850 s to the 1980 s
Robert Stevens,In this first general history of legal education, Stevens traces the development of law schools, the legal profession, and legal thought, relating their evolution to intellectual, political, and social trends. He describes how the establishment gained power over education after 1920 and how, in the past two decades, both students and the practicing profession have questioned this authority. He also examines the implications of the "legal revolution" and new opportunities for women and minorities.

Capital Markets in the Age of the Euro: Cross-Border Transactions, Listed Companies and Regulation
Guido Ferrarini, Klaus J. Hopt, Eddy Wymeersch,The integration of European--indeed, global--capital markets has been under way for quite some time. However, the adoption of the single European currency crystallises the process, solving many old problems at the same time as it creates new challenges. In this wide-ranging book, 28 notable practitioners and academics--including economists, regulators, and lawyers--pool their prodigious resources to analyse the current and future issues affecting investment, conduct of business rules, stock exchanges, trading, and company law. Originally designed as a research project, this finished work was developed from individual research and first drafts through group discussion to a final interconnected achievement. Since the authors met at a conference in Genoa in November 2000 on the initiative of four major European law faculties, a number of pertinent regulatory developments have taken place, notably the Lamfalussy Report and the adoption of various proposals by the European Commission. Analysis of the impact of such recent and ongoing events has been incorporated into this final text.

Developing Professional Skills: Contracts
Debora L. Threedy,This book seeks to aid the professor who wants to introduce skills training within the context of a traditional doctrinal course. Legal education is on the cusp of a new era. Law students and the profession are demanding that students leave law school better prepared for practice, with lawyering skills in place. Concurrently, learning science has shown that experiential learning (for example, a skills-based simulation) improves student outcomes with regard to mastery of a subject. Incorporating skills training into a traditional Contracts course is challenging, however, as professors feel constrained to cover the basics of doctrinal law and may not feel well-equipped to teach skills. The book provides ten independent exercises designed to introduce students to the skills of legal drafting, client interviewing and counseling, and negotiation and advocacy, but with a particular emphasis on contract drafting, as that skill is so closely tied in to Contracts.

A Practical guide to Constitution building: The Design of the Judicial Branch
Nora Hedling,"A Practical Guide to Constitution Building: The Design of the Judicial Branch" is a chapter within a larger publication by International IDEA (Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance) and is also available through the UN Peacemaker website. It provides an in-depth analysis of key considerations and options for designing the judicial branch during a constitution-building process. Core Topics The guide explores several critical aspects of designing the judiciary, emphasizing that no single branch operates in isolation and a balance of power is necessary: Powers of the Judiciary: Discusses core functions, including the critical role of constitutional review and the variations between systems (e.g., the decentralized "American model" versus the centralized "European model"). Special Circumstances: Examines the role of courts in specific, high-stakes situations, such as within the electoral process or during states of emergency. Judicial Independence and Accountability: Analyzes how to balance independence with accountability, considering mechanisms for the selection, removal, and term limits of judges. Legal Pluralism: Addresses the incorporation of more than one legal tradition or system within the constitutional framework.
