Impact of Air Pollutants on Southern Pine Forests
Fox S. Mickier R.A.,The public's attitude toward air pollution in the United States evolved substantially during the 1960s. One of the results of the nation's emerging environmental ethic was the creation of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in December of 1970. Prior to this time, research was focused on the impacts of air pollution on human health and welfare and was largely conducted by several federal research agencies, which included the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and the U. S. Department of Agricul ture. After the creation of the EPA, much of this work was consolidated in one regulatory agency, which resulted in periodic evaluations of the various effects of atmospheric pollution on human health, materials, agriculture, and forest ecosystems. At the same time that environmental interest was growing in the United States, concern increased in the European scientific community and public over the ecological impacts of acidic deposition. As the magnitude of the damage to European lakes and streams and the widespread decline in Norway spruce and silver fir was reported, concern that similar problems were occurring in the United States increased substantially. This concern was heightened by press reports of high elevation spruce-fir forest declines in the Adirondack and Appalachian Mountains and the decline and death of sugar maples in the northeastern United States and Canada.

Statistics for enviromental engineers
Linfield C. Brown (Author), Paul Mac Berthouex (Author),Statistics for Environmental Engineers is a solution-oriented book that encourages environmental engineers to view statistics as a problem-solving tool. It presents a completely new approach to the practical use of statistics in environmental science and engineering. You will learn about extracting information from data and using efficient experimental designs to generate informative data. Written in an easy-to-understand style, Statistics for Environmental Engineers consists of more than 40 short chapters, each dealing with a particular environmental problem or statistical technique. Each chapter is organized around a specific case study, beginning with a brief discussion of the appropriate methodology, followed by an analysis of the case study example, and ending with a comment on the strengths and weaknesses of the approach.

Economics of the Enviroment. Theory and Policy.
Horst Siebert,"The labor of nature is paid, not because she does much, but because she does little. In proportion as she becomes niggardly in her gifts, she exacts a greater price for her work. Where she is munificently benefi cent, she always works gratis." David Ricardo * This book interprets nature and the environment as a scarce resource. Whereas in the past people lived in a paradise of environmental superabundance, at pre sent environmental goods and services are no longer in ample supply. The envi ronment fulfills many functions for the economy: it serves as a public-con sumption good, as a provider of natural resources, and as receptacle of waste.

Cyberlaw
Bandler J.T.,Includes appendix, references, index, glossary, and diagrams. Summary: "Cyberlaw is everywhere: the intersection of law and technology. Law in the United States has evolved over hundreds of years and is now intertwined with technology, computers, the internet, and information systems. Cyberlaw affects everything we do, within traditional and digital spaces. Cybercrime is rampant and allows theft from far away, privacy is a critical concem as personal data is collected, sold, and hacked. Cyberconflict occurs between nation states, and now cyberspace provides a global method for speech, persuasion, and even manipulation. This book is for anyone desiring to learn about cyberlaw. Read it cover-to-cover or jump to the chapters relevant to your research. It breaks complexities into their simplest parts, then adds explanation and detail, then provides extensive additional references. The part and chapter titles show the book's comprehensive joumey. We start by building a cyberlaw learning mindset, then introduce law in the U.S. Next, we walk through technology. cybercrime, traditional civil laws applied to cyber, data laws, cyber conflict, cyber speech, and finally apply it to organization management. Cyberlaw issues penetrate every aspect of our lives, society, and system of government and democracy. This book explores them from a comprehensive perspective." Provided by publisher.

Tne Rignt to a Fair Trial.
Weissbrodt D. Rudiger W.,The volume contains the papers submitted to the International Symposium on "The Right to a Fair Trial" held at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. The Symposium undertook one of the most comprehensive surveys in recent times of the implications of the fair trial principle with regard to criminal proceedings, ranging from the rights of the accused during the pre-trial procedure through the principle of impartiality of judges to the application of the right to a fair trial in emergency situations, both under domestic and international law. Well-known specialists assess to which extent these standards have actually been implemented in national legal systems and what reforms are necessary to enhance the effectiveness of international human rights law in this area.

Hydrocarbons of Eastern Central Europe.
Popescu B.M.,Leading East European petroleum explorationists from Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, former East Germany, Hungary, Poland and Romania present a systematic view of petroleum geology, exploration history, production, reserves and potential in their countries which, until recently, have been closed to Western observers. Practitioners and scientists working in the field of hydrocarbon exploration will find valuable information for an interesting target area.
