Если каждому элементу из множества X поставлен в соответствие един- ственный элемент из множества Y , мы говорим, что задано отображение f : X → Y . Само существование отображения уже является существенным достижением. Поэтому важно знать, при каких условиях зависимость меж- ду элементами двух множеств является именно отображением. Для числовых функций мы уже обсудили обратные функции, функции заданные парамет- рически и затронули проблему существования неявной функции (см. лекцию 1.9). Сейчас мы обсудим проблему локального существования и дифферен- цируемости отображений конечномерных пространств

A MODERN COURSE QUANTUM THEORY OF SOLIDS

This book contains advanced subjects in solid state physics with emphasis on the theoretical exposition of various physical phenomena in solids with the use of quantum theory, hence entitled “A modern course on quantum theory of solids”. The use of the adjective “modern” in the title is to reflect the fact that some of the new developments in condensed matter physics have been included in the book. The new developments contained in the book are mainly in experimental methods (the inelastic neutron scattering and the photoemission spectroscopy), in magnetic properties of solids (the itinerant magnetism, the superexchange, the Hubbard model, and the giant and colossal magnetoresistance), and in optical properties of solids (the Raman scattering). Besides the new developments, the Green’s function method used in many-body physics and the strong-coupling theory of superconductivity are also expounded in great details.

Graphene to nanographene

Graphene is a monolayer graphite sheet recently fabricated [1–3] and has been attracting attention theoretically and experimentally since the observation of the integer quantum Hall effect [4, 5]. Several reviews have already been published [6–9]. Actually, graphene has been a subject of study prior to the experimental realization because of the peculiar electronic structure responsible for intriguing properties of carbon nanotubes [10] and because of theoretical interest in special properties of systems in relativistic limit. The purpose of this chapter is to give a brief review on electronic properties of graphenes mainly from a theoretical point of view. The topics include effective-mass description of electronic states, transport and optical properties, and phonons and their interaction with electrons.
