Seventeen years ago we published the first edition of this casebook because we believed that, although there were several different and some other excellent administrative law casebooks, none focused on administrative law practice. Yet it was administrative law practice that each of us had found exciting and fun, a reaction quite common among other practitioners of administrative law. However, this was hardly the reaction most students had with respect to their course on administrative law. Perhaps, we thought, by focusing the book on practice we could both fill a pedagogical need and enliven the law school administrative law course for students at the same time.
