The book is divided into two parts. The first part of the book covers how the EU functions: its history, constitutions, and institutions. The second part of the book provides succinct explanations of the key areas of substantive law, focusing on the free movement of goods, the free movement of persons, social policy, and competition law. To gain a full understanding of EU law, it is necessary to be aware of the numerous perspectives that arise from different nations, different cultural understandings, different histories, and different social and economic backgrounds and systems which have contributed to the establishment and development of the EU. These perspectives are introduced fully in the opening chapter of the book, which provides a concise overview of the history of the EU and its constitutional basis.
